All in the April Evening

This week’s theme is ‘All in the April Evening -Which is a line from a hymn by Katherine Tynan and Hugh Roberton:

P1200483

All in the April evening
April airs are abroad
The sheep with their little lambs
Passed me by on the road

I’m looking forward to seeing lots of poems and stories

inspired by the ‘April airs’ we are enjoying this week

  1. Hi

Hope everyone is having a good week and been able to enjoy the glorious weather we’ve been having
    Please find my response to this week’s creative theme below;

    All in the April Evening

    Out for an evening stroll
I stop atop the well-trodden peat track
At the crest of the hill
    Just along from me

I breathe in the sweet smell of Spring
And look down across moor, croft and sea

A small fishing boat glides seamlessly through the calm waters
Sheep are calling for their lambs
A skylark hovers anxiously above singing
To keep us off the scent of its precious nest and contents

I breathe in the sweet smell of Spring
And look down across moor, crofts and sea

    A beautiful moment
    I feel at peace
And wish I could hit pause
On this perfect April Evening 2020

  2. That’s lovely Rebecca. My mum and I have been noticing the larks on our exercise walks – they are going full throttle at the moment, aren’t they!

    All in the April Evening

    On this sunny evening
We go down the road and back
    The corona allowed exercise walk
    Lambs being born
Lying with the mother sheep against the wall

The lady painting her gnomes in the garden
Lovely blue sky lighter at the horizon
    Then darker above
Two wild geese fly over the moor
Circling far and then come back
And land at the back of us

The baby chicks all seven of them
    Gather round the mother hen
She scratches at the ground and
The little chicks go in and pick insects
Then the whole family move together
Across the grass and find another patch
Going home to a chicken coop
As it gets later and darker

The sixth day of lovely sunny weather
Not even much breeze and looking to the west
A beautiful sunset light orange at the horizon
    Then stronger red higher up
And gradually the sun passes behind the hill
Smooth colours as there are no clouds.

  4. Mairi has sent us this account of a different sort of April evening but one that is probably more representative of a Spring evening for many of us.

    All in an April Evening
    By Mairi Cable.

All in an April evening, I watched part of the Big Night In. I saw a sketch with Catherine Tait and David Tenant in which he was a teacher anda she was a pupil. She was being chastised for not working hard enough and not getting her grades. At first, she agreed with him that she wasn’t putting enough of an effort in and David was angered that she was being cooperative in agreeing to try harder. Then when he said that she would get her grades she said “Am I bothered!”

There was another sketch with Prince William and Stephen Fry about Baldrik. Then it was time to clap for the N.H.S. and other workers. So, Prince William said he had to put on his socks and trousers. Then we saw them, his wife and family, clapping for the workers. I went out and clapped for the N.H.S. myself
There were music artists as well, but at present I can’t remember who they were.
Lenny Henry, Matt Baker and Davina MacCall were the hosts for the first half of this. In the second half Zoe Ball took over the helm.

All this was on a summery evening in April.

  5. COMMON DAISY
    BELLIS PERENIS.

    All on
    An April
    Evening,
    The Daisy
    Petals fold.
    Protecting her
    Sun heart.
    So, she
    May rest.
    So, she may
    Renew,
    Strengthen,
    And Attract,
    My eyes,
    And insects,
    Alike.
    The vey
    Next day.

  6. Within open minds
    Beating Beltane hearts boogie
    May Day dreaming flies.

    With tiny hands stretched
    Reaching towards its journey
    Blossom blooms on branch.

    Child hearing birdsong
Behind the peek a boo tree
    Finds joy is native.

    Robin hops fragile
    Moving dense branches to hide
    Flashing red it warns.

    Waiting in the woods
    Corrugated hut lies bare
    Left to rust it sighs.
